Still Life with Partitions
Space is rarely empty. It is quietly shaped by boundaries, divisions, and the relationships between forms. When these elements intersect, even the simplest arrangement can become a site of subtle tension and balance.

Still Life with Partitions explores how space can be structured through the interaction of contrasting elements. In this series, the pictorial field is divided by opposing forms deliberately juxtaposed, revealing the strengths and tensions that arise between them.
At the center of each composition are three simplified wooden sculptures loosely derived from traditional still-life objects. Their stick-like structures suggest openness and movement, while their curves and jagged angles guide the eye through the negative spaces they enclose.
In contrast, freestanding partitions introduce order and containment. Defined by straight edges and firm boundaries, these elements divide and organize the field, creating a tension between fluidity and control while standing in opposition to the more organic quality of the sculptures.
Background panels are carefully positioned and occasionally capture cast shadows, adding depth and forming an additional visual layer within the composition.
Through these measured interactions, the series examines how division, contrast, light, and shadow collaborate to structure space and shape perception. What initially appears simple gradually reveals a more complex spatial dialogue between object, boundary, and shadow.
